Hello Parents!
There was definitely a delay in weekly updates, I apologize. I aim to write an update every Friday for the rest of the year. I can't believe it is Lent already, I love how this season prepares us for Easter and the rest of the year through fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. In Math, we are in Unit 5, we will probably take our Unit test on March 8th. This unit is all about fractions and arcs (which we have not learned about yet). Fractions can be tricky but students are doing well. Our I-Ready meeting showed that 4th grade grew by 70% in scores from the Fall diagnostic, that means that we are right were we should be and hopefully we keep that growth again for the Spring I-Ready diagnostic. The last 2 I-Ready lessons that will be counted for this trimester for a grade out of 20 passed lessons. In Science, we are in Unit 6 lesson 2 of Change's to Earth's Surface. We will have our quiz on the following Monday and we will complete our much anticipated experiment the day after our quiz. Study guides will be given on Tuesday. In Religion, we are getting close to our First Reconciliation which will be February 25th from noon to 2 PM. Students are learning about the steps of a Reconciliation and what to expect when they go. Have a great long weekend and as always please email me with any questions or comments, Ms. Selvek Dear Parents and Students, I hope this weekly update finds you all in great joy and high spirits as we approach the end of the year. I couldn't end this year without expressing my deepest gratitude for the wonderful Christmas gifts I received from your generous hearts. Opening each carefully wrapped card and/or package filled my heart with warmth and appreciation. Your thoughtful gestures truly touched me, and I feel so fortunate to have such caring and supportive families in our Grade 4 community. Each gift will serve as a reminder of the bond we share as teacher, students, and parents. However, I must say that the most precious gift I could ever receive is the privilege of being your child's teacher. Witnessing their growth, enthusiasm for learning, and the unique qualities that make each one of them special brings me immense joy and fulfillment. It is a gift that keeps giving, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of their educational journey. As we approach the midpoint of our Winter Break, I want to wish each and every one of you a restful and joyful time with family and friends. May this season be filled with laughter, love, and cherished moments. Take the opportunity to relax and recharge so that we can come back in the New Year ready for more exciting adventures in learning. Thank you once again for your kindness and generosity. I am looking forward to the second half of the school year and the continued joy of teaching your wonderful children. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas, a Happy Winter Break, and a fantastic New Year! Warm regards, Mrs. Selvek I laid out all of your Christmas greeting to share with my family and we enjoyed reading them and saying a prayer for a peaceful, safe and magical Christmas for all the St. Francis Xavier families. Hello Parents,
Carol and Lights was beautiful I am so glad I got to go, everyone did very well. We have some talented singers in 4th grade. We made it to the week before Christmas. Don't forget give your child a Christmas hat tomorrow we will make sure to take a class photo. This week we will focus on getting any missing work turned in. I will have copies of everything and our goal will be to turn everything in by Wednesday. Our incentive will be Christmas Math CSI where students will work as detectives to try and solve who stole Santa's sleigh. On Wednesday we will also be taking our Session 10 Religion test on Advent and our Lesson 3 Quiz in Science. Friday will be a half day. Please email me with any questions or concerns, Ms. Selvek Hello Parents!
How quickly we have come to a new Advent season! I believe that Service Day helps us to really get into the holiday spirit. It was a truly unforgettable experience and I have never seen anything like it. Saint Francis does an amazing job of teaching service from a young age. There was a beautiful mass on Thursday with a very talented children's choir (including some students in 4th) that brought tears to my eyes and Friday the fourth graders got to pack meals for the hungry all over the world. We packed 198 boxes of these meal packs and then we got back together to hear about what the other classes did, it was such a unique and special day. In Math we will continue to work in Unit 3 on equivalent fractions but we will be ending shortly and will probably have a test on December 13th. In Science, we will continue with Unit 2 and Lesson 2 on Heat Transfer and have a Quiz on Wednesday. We will also be finishing Session 6 and have a Quiz on Session 6 on Wednesday. Students really enjoyed our Heat Spinner lab on Monday and are looking forward to the Marble Collision lab we will do in a couple of weeks that goes better with Lesson 3. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and looking forward to this week, Ms. Selvek Hello Parents,
Just a quick update for this week, we are going to have the Session 5 Religion Assessment on Tuesday and the Unit 2 Math test on Wednesday. We have started the ADD program and students will complete 3 ADDs to gain knowledge in different Math skills, they are also completing 4 Xtra Math lessons in class in addition to their 2 Math I-Ready lessons. Students are working on a scripture summaries project that will be due on Wednesday, I cannot wait to see their presentations they have been working so hard. In Science, we will be doing a series and parallel circuit lab on Monday I spend my Saturday cutting and scoring wire and shopping for batteries, students will enjoy putting together circuits to light bulbs. We will have a quiz on Thursday from what we learn about throughout the week about electricity. This Thursday will be the last day for grades for the first trimester, I will be working with Ms. Morella to get any missing student work. There will also be a book fair this week. Band has also started and practices will be on Monday. There will be no school on Friday, teachers have professional development that day, Please email me with any questions or concerns, thank you! Ms. Selvek Hello Parents!
Another week has passed and the weather has been so great these last couple of days, I hope everyone was able to go out and enjoy some beautiful Fall weather. Students had fun completing a Google Assignment on their Chromebooks for Religion when they got to make a collage of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. I was really impressed with their collages and what they were able to come up with. We had a Math and Science quiz on Friday and this Monday we will have our Session 4 Religion Test. I am working with Ms. Pullappally to spread out test and quiz dates so our students are not overwhelmed, I know that Monday is not an ideal test day either so I will work on having my assessments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This week we will start a new Unit in Science on Electricity and in Math we will learn how to convert units of time and how to identify different types of triangles. In Religion we will start Session 5 "Celebrating Ordinary Time " where we will learn about discipleship. Please reach out if you or your child have any questions or concerns, Blessings, Ms. Selvek Hello Parents and Students,
